5 Favorite Belly Dance Warm-Up Songs
June 26, 2018I had a great evening teaching my talented group of intermediate belly dancers this evening! We are officially halfway through our song so today was review week! They are dancing to Doris Day's "Dream a Little Dream of Me." We are very excited for our benefit showcase scheduled in August! Every 16 weeks, the studio has a showcase featuring the dances we have learned over the past several months. It is such a great experience and bonding opportunity for us ladies!
Since belly dance has been at the forefront of my mind, let's talk warm-up songs! Warming up gradually increases the body's temperature to optimal working level to help avoid injuries. I also feel that warm-ups help set the tone for class. I personally prefer upbeat music that gets your blood pumping (trap/hip-hop included!) or relaxing songs to warm-up.
Here are my top 5 favorite belly dance warm-up songs with video and sound so you can indulge with me!
1. Raul Ferrando - "Yearning" - It is just beautiful! Fathi Aljarah plays the violin flawlessly in this gorgeous piece. It also features Abdallah Hakawatti on tabla and hand percussion who does an amazing job.
2. Antiserum & Mayhem - "Trippy" - I love trap music. It totally gets my blood pumping. I not only use this song to warm-up to in belly dance class class; it's on my gym playlist as well. It's not "traditional" belly dance by any means, but it is fun to listen to. We actually performed to another track by Antiserum & Mayhem called "Seven Deadly Sins" at least year's Bayou Belly Festivale.
3. Hamdi El'Khyyat - "Shake Time" - There is no better track to get your body ready to groove than a song called "Shake Time."
4. Raquy and the Caveman - "Sexy Chiftelli" - This slower paced song is truly sexy. It sounds very gypsy!
5. Sarah Brightman - "Harem" - As you've seen so far, I have no problem with throwing different types of music in the mix. The lovely Sarah Brightman is a renowned opera/pop/crossover artist. Having loved the song for many years, I knew it would be perfect as a warm-up for my class!
What are some of your favorite warm-up songs? I'd love to add a few more songs to my playlist!
